Google Can Now See Your Instagram. And It's Handing You the Data.
Search Console just started tracking how your Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube posts perform in Google Search. Here's what it means and how to set it up today.

Hey friend!
We have been talking about this exact concept for a while now. Connect your platforms. Show up everywhere. Help Google understand who you are across the whole internet, not just your website. And on July 7th, Google basically built the infrastructure to support all of it.
Google Search Console just launched something called platform properties — and it's one of the most significant things to happen to creator analytics in years. Your social posts have been showing up in Google Search for a long time. Now, for the first time, you can actually see it happening.
What this actually is
Platform properties are a new type of property you can add inside Google Search Console. Instead of verifying a website, you connect a social or video account directly. Google confirms you own the account, and then starts showing you how that account's posts perform in Google Search and Discover.
This is genuinely new. Your Instagram Reels, TikToks, and YouTube videos have been ranking in Google for years. But until now you had absolutely zero visibility into that traffic inside Search Console, because Search Console was built for websites. Now Google is extending it to social content, on platforms it doesn't own, for free.

What you can actually see
Each platform property gives you three reports. This is the same reporting structure Search Console already uses for websites, just applied to your social content.
| 📊 |
Performance Report
Total clicks, impressions, and the search queries people used to find your posts. Filterable by individual post so you can see exactly which content is driving Google search traffic. Exportable for deeper analysis.
| 🔎 |
Insights Report
A high-level look at recent traffic trends, your top-performing posts, and how people are discovering your account through Google — at a glance, without digging through filters.
| 🏆 |
Achievements
Milestone tracking for your growth — like hitting a new threshold for total clicks from Google Search. The same achievement system already available for website properties.
Why this is a bigger deal than it sounds
Think about what's been happening on the discovery side of your content. A portion of your audience is finding you through a Reel or a TikTok that got indexed in Google, not through your blog post. That's been true for a while. Until this week, you had zero data on it.
Now you can see the exact search terms people used before landing on your content. That's the Queries tab in the Performance report, and for food bloggers it's genuinely powerful. If a Reel you posted about a one-pan pasta dish is pulling search traffic for "easy weeknight pasta dinner," that is a confirmed content gap on your website. It means the demand is real, your content already proves it, and a full blog post on that topic is almost certain to rank.
The Big Opportunity
The search terms people use to find your Reels and TikToks on Google are also the exact keywords you should be writing blog posts about. Your social content is already doing the keyword research for you.
One important thing to know
There's no historical data backfill. Your tracking starts from the moment you connect your account, not from before. That means the sooner you set this up, the sooner you start building a data history you can actually learn from. There's no reason to wait on this one.

Quick note
Platform properties are different from the Google Search Profiles we wrote about last month. Search Profiles are public-facing pages that consolidate your content for followers. Platform properties are analytics — they live inside your Search Console account and only you can see them. Two different tools, two different purposes. Both are worth having.

How to Set It Up
Do this today. It takes about two minutes.
Open Google Search Console
Go to search.google.com/search-console and sign in with the Google account connected to your site.
Click Add Property
From the property selector dropdown in the sidebar or the verification welcome page. You'll see the new platform options listed alongside the standard website property types.
Choose your platform and authorize
Select Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube and follow the on-screen steps to authorize the connection. Repeat for each platform you're active on. Each one becomes its own separate property with its own reports.
Give it a few days
Data starts collecting from the moment you verify. If you see empty charts at first that's normal — it takes a few days to populate. Also note: the rollout is gradual, so if you don't see the platform options yet, check back in a few days.
Once you've got data, here's what to actually do with it
| 01 |
Check the Queries tab first
The search terms people used to find your Reels and TikToks on Google are your next blog post topics. If your social content is already ranking for a term, a dedicated blog post on that topic has a very high chance of ranking too.
| 02 |
Find out which format is actually driving Google traffic
You can filter the Performance report by post to see which specific pieces of content are earning clicks from Search. If carousels are outperforming Reels in Google — or vice versa — let the data guide your format decisions rather than guessing.
| 03 |
Write captions with Google in mind going forward
Google indexes your captions. That's been true for a while but now you can see the effect directly in Search Console. Include the natural language keywords in your captions — not stuffed, just written the way a person would actually search. This is the link between social SEO and regular SEO that most people are still sleeping on.
| |
This is one of those things that rewards the people who set it up early. The sooner you connect your accounts, the longer your data history gets, and the better your decisions become. Go set it up today. It takes two minutes and it's completely free.
